What does asbestos look like?
This is one of the most frequently
asked questions when we are called so we have created a
pictorial example of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM's) so
that assistance is available day and night. So,

examples of ACM's.
Some ACM's must be dealt with by a Health &
Safety Executive licenced specialist and some can be dealt with by
a contractor already on site, although it is preferable to resolve
any asbestos issue with a specialist prior to starting work.
More clarity on whether a product is licensed or non-licensed can
be found on the HSE web
site.
All work with ACM's
must be carried out following the approved codes of practice by a
competent, preferably experienced person.
Additionally they must be insured for working with asbestos
and hold a hazardous waste carriers licence for
transporting small amounts of asbestos waste to an
approved toxic waste site or arrange for the supply of an asbestos
skip. A copy of the waste note must be available if
requested.
Asbestos awareness
We offer awareness seminars to assist duty holders with the
Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR).
These can take the form of informal tool box talks to
maintenance staff through to more specific requirements, tailored
to our client's needs. This is usually carried out at our client's
premises as we believe that this makes the training more relevant
to the environment that they are working in.
We have found that retention of information concerning Asbestos
is generally more memorable by completing practical exercises
throughout our clients' premises as it caters more specifically to
individual needs.
Over the years, we have found that providing information about
Asbestos and the way it needs to be managed puts everyone's mind at
rest. Being left in the dark can leave too much opportunity for
hearsay and scare mongering. If this is something that you feel
would be of benefit, please contact us to discuss any requirements that
you may have.
