Essex asbestos project

To coincide with the national Hidden Killer campaign, the 14 Essex LAs undertook an inspection initiative across the county facilitated by the provision of full flexible warrants. The project targeted asbestos Duty To Manage (DTM) requirements and built upon an initiative undertaken in 2007 by Suffolk. HSE staff facilitated the project planning, training, targeting, review and inspection.

Results showed that less than 15% of dutyholders were in full compliance with the asbestos DTM requirements. 724 visits were undertaken with 337 follow-up visits planned. Seven improvement notices were served at the initial visit and 457 follow up advisory letters sent to confirm the advice given.
